Reflection

Look in the mirror—
What do I see?
A foggy reflection of me.
I haven’t cleaned it in a long, long time;
I’m afraid of what I’ll find
When I look through that grime.
Foggy mirror, covering up my sin.
Can’t look at the mess within.
Foggy mirror, what do you see?
A distorted reflection of me.
I ask God, “What can I do?
I wish all I saw was the reflection of You.”
I wipe off the mirror and what do I find?
Jesus is looking right in my eyes.
I had covered Him up with the grime.
He was there all the time.
Instead of a mirror I found
A dirty glass wall I had placed all around.

Sometimes it can be difficult to take a good hard look at yourself and your flaws. This poem embodied that feeling, and explains that you fence yourself in if you don’t take into account the flaws you have. Instead of avoiding a good hard look, you build walls to keep others out and prevent yourself from being exposed.

What do you struggle with? What areas need improvement in your life? Leave a comment below to let me know.
