Beyond The Mask: A Fiction-Atlas Superhero Anthology
by C.L. Cannon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
As anthologies go, this wasn’t bad. I love a good superhero story, and the fact that proceeds from this anthology were going toward charity, I thought, why not? I don’t regret the decision, but I admit, I felt the stories were a bit of a mixed bag. While I wouldn’t go as far as to say they were bad, I felt that some weren’t exactly what I’d call a story, but more of a character study. There were a couple that I found a little odd/confusing, but again, nothing worth throwing the full collection away for. Despite some struggle on my part to connect with the book, I found the following stories to be excellent:
- Turncoat by C.L. Cannon
- S.P.A. by Sarah Buhrman
- Lady Blackwing by Devorah Fox
- Let There Be Peace by Bob James
If you like superheroes, especially not your typical superheroes, check this anthology out, and revel in a good read with good impact.
*This anthology is intended for an adult audience. There was little swearing for the most part, but some stories included more than others. Basically, read at your own risk.
