New Cover Design: Redemption’s Beacon by Sandy Stuckless

Redemption's Beacon by Sandy StucklessEvery once in a while I get bored and do something crazy. Like pick a story from one of my writer friends and design a cover for them. It doesn’t happen often, but this happened to be one of those times.

Redemption’s Beacon

I love this story. It’s a bit creepy, but strangely heartwarming. A man’s haunted past finally catches up with him one day trying to make amends as part of an alcoholic recovery program.

It’s a short story, but well worth the read. So I made a cover.

The Author

I met Sandy Stuckless through an author Facebook group. He’s still in the early stages of his author career, but he’s definitely one to watch.

Make sure you hop on over to Sandy’s Facebook page to read Redemption’s Beacon, and like the page while you’re there. He has a werewolf short in the works, as well as a novel that includes a group of gun-running elves. Epic.

The Art

This was a fun cover to make. I couldn’t find the perfect picture, so I hobbled a few pictures together. The lighthouse is one, and according to the tags comes from somewhere in Canada. The sky and gorgeous lightning strike are a separate picture. I used two different pictures to get the waves good and rough. The ship is another picture, and I added some ghosting glow around it.

I had to colorize everything to make sure it all matched, darken the lighthouse because the pic was a day pic, and added the light beams and lens flare to the lighthouse to make it glow.

Then I just used some simple fonts to title it so it wouldn’t clash with the bold and epic artwork.

Kind of partial, but I think it’s awesome. :)
