Peter’s Story

I am greatly saddened,
For I forsook Your name three times.
First in the court where a girl asked me
If Jesus was a friend of mine.
I was still a little frightened
From when they took my Lord away,
So I told her I didn’t know Him,
And then she went away.
It was just a little later
Someone said I was in Jesus’ crowd.
I told him, “I don’t know
what you’re talking about,”
And found another place to sit down.
Once again that evening
I forsook Your holy name.
Then I heard the cock crow,
And saw you looking at me.
Then I remembered Your words,
And felt my dignity being taken,
But You came back for me,
And told me I had been forgiven.

This is written from the perspective of Peter. He didn’t betray Christ, but he did deny him, and it caused him a lot of pain. His arrogance was his downfall, but Jesus’ love is amazing. It covered over his sins, and he went on to become a pillar of the church.

What kind of mistakes did you make that you thought you would never recover from? How has forgiveness changed your life? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.
