Poem: Again

Again is a poem about the desire for love but the hope of not giving it to the wrong person.

Again

Screaming want,
Burning desire.
Put me out,
My heart is on fire!
Why do so many suitors come
When I try to talk to one?
Buzzing bees
Swoop around a flower,
All waiting for a chance.
Will I be empty when the next one comes?
Help me close for now.
I must wait for the right bee.

This piece of poetry was written as a response both to male attention – which I had plenty of, though most of it wasn’t that great – and the Bible’s call for purity. Being a teenager is a difficult thing to manage! Here is the verse that inspired this poem:

“Promise me, O women of Jerusalem, by the swift gazelles and the deer of the wild, not to awaken love until the time is right.” ~ Song of Solomon 2:7
