My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A heart-wrenching but beautiful story.

Description

In ‘Tis the Season, Lauren is dealing with infertility, and the subsequent diagnosis of PCOS. Her ideals that she’s built around her and her husband, Joe, have been shattered, and she’s turned to the only thing she thinks can make her happy – social media.

The texts, comments and likes come in flurries every time she puts out another post about her perfect life, but it’s doing nothing to fix the pain she’s struggling through.

The holidays come, and what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation at home turns into a stressful trip to see the in-laws who have promised to pay off their student loans if they make the trip. They could use that money, so the decision to go seems made for them, but Lauren worries that they’ve made the wrong decision.

You see, Lauren has never really felt accepted by Joe’s mom, and spending three days under her watchful eye with a still empty womb is sure to cause trouble.

Can Lauren find happiness for the holidays or will it be one more pothole in her year of disappointments?

Review

‘Tis the Season takes you through it all, and someone who has questioned my own fertility several times during our years of trying, the emotion in this book is right on the nose. It’s such a sweet holiday story, though, despite the murky waters of anger and bitterness. You really see the whole thing come into a different light for Lauren as she grows, stretches, and comes to terms with a life that is less than the perfection she’d hoped for.

A sweet novella for any time of the year, but especially in light of the Christmas season. If you love stories with heart, have ever struggled with dissatisfaction, or love the holidays, then you’ll love ‘Tis the Season.
