exectieIf you have a baby boy, chances are you have noticed the lack of selection in cute boys clothes. Wander over to the girl’s section and you will find an abundance of adorable outfits in a variety of colors. Now I absolutely love having a boy, but this disparity can be frustrating. If you are like me, you think you have the cutest baby boy, and you feel he deserves adorable clothing options. I also need his clothes to be affordable since he is growing out of them so fast, so I decided to try to make some baby clothes for my little man.

I wanted some formal onesies for my boy to wear to church, so I decided to embellish some white onesies I had received as a gift. I found some nice ties at the Salvation Army, being careful not to choose any that were made from silk. I cut off the skinny end and took out the back seam so I could give it a fuller bottom. Then I cut another piece to serve as the knot of the tie, making sure it was big enough to fold over the edges for a clean look. Then I ironed the tie pieces to help set the edges for easier sewing. I pinned the ties on, but you could use fusible tape for a more secure placement. Then I just sewed around all of the edges.

Voila! I had the cutest DIY baby onesies to dress up my boy for any occasion. These embellished onesies would also make great creative baby gifts for any mother expecting a baby boy. I have also noticed some cute suspender onesies that I would like to try. I just need to find some more plain white onesies to give me more opportunities to experiment. Fortunately it is nearly garage sale season, so I should be set pretty soon!
