I think life should have a soundtrack, and baby’s first year is no exception. Here are 12 songs that just seemed appropriate for those milestone moments.

1. Push It by Salt-N-Pepa

So I had to include this song, because baby’s entrance is generally accompanied by pushing, but since I wanted a cleaner version, I went for the Geico Commercial instead.

2. Learning to Breathe by Switchfoot

3. Getting to Know You performed by Julie Andrews

4. Milkshake by Kelis

This just seemed ironic, especially for all those mothers out there breastfeeding.

5. Dare You to Move by Switchfoot

6. I Like to Move It/Afro Circus

This was one of my son’s favorite songs, and it perfectly embodied his love of moving.

7. Threw It on the Ground

The parody is hilarious, and again, perfectly described his love of discarding things.

8. Ice Cream by Sarah McLachlan

Because you really do love that little bundle more than anything!

9. Tubthumping by Chumbawamba

I Get Knocked Down, But I Get Up Again… Learning to walk isn’t easy, but children sure are resilient!

10. Clocks by Coldplay

That first year is definitely the longest and shortest you will ever experience.

11. Shake it Off by Taylor Swift

Another of my son’s favorites!

12. Happy by Pharrell Williams
